In theory items are the backbone of your digital archive. It’s your choice as to how you structure and organise them into different collections.
An item is an individual file that has been either born-digital or digitised, for example the page of a book, a 35mm slide, plan, photo or glass plate. In fact, a wide range of mediums can be uploaded as items, and we offer a long list of supported file formats.
Items enable collections to be produced, by grouping like items together, together with the assigning of attributes (and assigning to attribute set) so they are filtered into categories and subcategories. These filters are what design your collection into a logical, highly searchable structure, enhancing access and discoverability.
