Advanced Search
There are a number of systems and processes working behind the scenes to support PastView’s Advanced Search facility, making it both rigorous and robust. Data can be specifically tailored to provide advanced search options specific to collection type. For example, it might be preferable to use metadata, such as Name, D.O.B, and/or Regiment Number to explore collections that focus on people. Or, it might be preferable to use metadata such as Issue Date, Series, or Year for magazines.
PastView's Advanced Search, makes use of:
- Attribute Sets & Attributes - the different terms used to describe your items to drill down to the most relevant matches.
- Optical Character Recognition (OCR) & Handwritten Text Transcription (HTR) - software searches documents for any given text, accurately retrieving and matching data within your collections.
- Automatic Audio Transcription (AAT) - automatically transcribing all audio speech so words and phrases can be searched and revealed.
- Synonym Search - alternative phrases and spellings to identify relevant matches.

Société Jersiaise
A commitment to the country’s history, language and antiquities
The value of any collection is only ever fully realised when its contents are accessible, so we needed a user-friendly platform that did not sacrifice the needs of serious research. We needed a way to showcase the breadth and depth of our collections in an attractive way that offered powerful, customisable search options when users required them."
